44 new items!

Update preview photos!  This one is my favorite:

I haven’t photographed everything that’s going in the update yet, but there will be at least 40 items, including several brand-new designs.  Maybe more than 40, if I get on a roll this afternoon.  I have the house to myself, gorgeous sunlight, and lots of ideas.

Update goes live at 8 p.m. eastern time, as always.

I’m going to be completely offline today and possibly into the evening, as this is the Day of Getting A New Computer, Finally. (Plus, y’know, doing that jewelry party in Watertown.) If you desperately need to reach me, call me. The number’s on the website. ‘Song, if you don’t turn up at the party, I’ll plan to go by your house afterwards to pick you up.

I go zoom now.

Labradorite, blue goldstone stars, pearls, keys — it’s just a small update, but there’s some pretty stuff.

Oh, also! I have a few more of those fiberoptic glass cat beads now, so if you wanted a piece similar to the “Invisible Aliens That Cats Chase Up Walls” pendant, I can make more of those. Poke me during an Instant Gratification session, or shoot me an email.

Tonight’s update will be tiny (but oh, there’s some gorgeous labradorite going in it, and I have blue goldstone stars — let me repeat, BLUE GOLDSTONE STARS) and the bonus Instant Gratification session is getting bumped out to Sunday afternoon, because my computer is fuxxored again and really doesn’t like to talk to the internet at all anymore, and since they’ve already replaced everything but the screen and the drives, I’ve finally talked Apple into just giving me a whole new laptop tomorrow. So rather than wrestle with a barely working computer tonight, I’m rescheduling it for Sunday. Plus doing it then means you get bonus Shadesong!

So to reiterate: tiny update at 8 p.m. eastern tonight, Instant Gratification on Sunday afternoon, exact time TBA. (And then again on Monday in the evening, as always.) Oh, yes, and jewelry party in Watertown MA tomorrow from 2 - 4. Last chance to RSVP!

The highlight of this week’s update is a set of limited edition Intent Pendants, designed in honor of the history-making events of the past week: Hope, Dream, Unity, and Change. 50% of the proceeds from the sale of these pendants will be invested in Kiva.org, a microlending organization that helps small businesses in the developing world. As an added bonus, if you purchase the entire set, you’ll also receive a Justice pendant (not available for purchase!) and save $10. Only 12 are available, and these designs will not be added to our regular catalog — when they’re gone, they’re gone.

A couple of items of note — there’s still some room available at the jewelry party I’m doing in Watertown MA next weekend, so if you’re in the Boston area and would like to join us, just email me to RSVP and get directions! Also, I’d like to direct your attention to our calendar, as our holiday schedule is now up. December 1st is your last chance to order custom jewelry for the holidays (although I will be doing Instant Gratification Monday right up until December 22nd) and I’m doing my final gemstone shopping trip of the year on Sunday, so if you’ve been wanting to ask me to get any particular stones, now’s your chance.

PSA: last supply run before the holidays!

Kate and I are making a run to one of our biggest suppliers on Sunday, so if there’s anything you’d like to see (or anything you’d like to request for custom work) please let me know by tomorrow afternoon!  I can get pretty much anything there, including precious stones, so if you’ve been wanting something I don’t normally stock, let me know and I’ll see what I can do.  This will be my last trip to a major supplier before the holidays, so if you’re planning on getting custom work for gifts, or you’d like to see something in particular, now’s the time to let me know.

(If you want precious stones, I know they carry really gorgeous rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and tourmalines, and I think they may also have some tanzanitite, topaz, and opal.  Their prices are good but those stones don’t come cheap anywhere, so this is one of the few times when I’d want a deposit on custom work.)

Back to work with me.  There’s a new line of Intent Pendants going up tonight, by the way.

I almost never talk about politics here, and I know at this point you’re probably sick of hearing about the election, and I’m too tired to be either articulate or elloquent tonight anyway. But bear with me for a minute.

It will probably come as no surprise to any of you that I’m an Obama supporter.  I’m a small business owner, I’m a woman, I’m an artist, I’m pro-choice, I’m queer, and I’ve been a registered Democrat since the day I turned 18. I’ve gone to see him speak and I’ve read his books, and he strikes me as an intelligent, compassionate man who truly cares about the country and our future.  I’ve been supporting him since the NH primaries, volunteering for the campaign when I can, and while I don’t think he’s the One True Savior, I think he will be a damned good president.

I know I’m largely preaching to the choir here, but if you’re still undecided, please do some reading tonight or tomorrow morning.  Listen to some of the debates.  Read Obama’s statement on how he plans to support the arts, and read what he’s said about helping small businesses — not just those “small businesses” that make $250k or more a year, but the small businesses like mine that make just enough to keep our families fed and pay the mortgage but leave us struggling to afford health care and taxes.  Do some soul-searching, and then go out tomorrow and vote from your heart and your conscience.  Don’t take your rights for granted.  Don’t take anything for granted.

Some last-minute information, snagged from all over the ‘net:

If you encounter any problems when you go to vote, the number to call is 1-866-OUR-VOTE. There are over 750 volunteers equipped with access to local voter registration rolls, election law, and other tools to make sure that the polls are being operated correctly.

Some potential problems may include:

* Polling place is not open when it should be, or is closing early
* You’re told that you’re not registered, or you’re in the wrong precinct
* Voting machines are not working
* Someone is asking for identification or information you don’t think you’re required to give
* You’re told that you have to fill out a provisional ballot
* Someone is acting in an intimidating manner or trying to prevent you from entering the polling place

If you see anything like this happen, or any other problems, call 1-866-OUR-VOTE. And if you see it happening to anyone else, tell them to call the number. This is a truly non-partisan organization - we can help you no matter who you’re voting for. The goal is for an election administered fairly across the board.

Don’t assume that your vote won’t make a difference, or that enough other people will vote the way you would that it won’t make a difference.  Go.  VOTE.  History is in our hands.

Instant Gratification Monday: tonight from 8 - 10 p.m. eastern time.
